From Ian Billinghurst
There are no words to adequately express the emptiness and deep sorrow that fill Roslyn and myself following the loss of Catherine O’Driscoll… a truly beautiful human. To say that she played an enormous role in our lives and the lives of countless others – and their animals – hardly states the case. Deeply spiritual, powerfully caring, a genuine seeker of truth and seemingly limitless in her efforts to improve the lives of dogs that share our lives….. goes somewhat towards describing Catherine. Our lives were forever changed from the time Catherine brought us to England in the late nineties to spread the raw message. This is a movement she supported from that point forward. Catherine became the catalyst that set us on the path that for us – continues today. There is so much more that could and should be said, but we will leave that to those who were fortunate enough to work with her over the years. Our thoughts go out to her family at this difficult time. Ian and Roslyn Billinghurst -------------- From the British Association of Homeopathic Veterinary Surgeons Dear Rob, It is with tremendous sadness that we learnt the news of Catherine’s death. We wanted to send you our condolences but also express what she meant to our Association and to homeopathic vets in general. Rarely do you meet someone with such determination and dedication in improving the life of animals. Her selfless and committed campaigning on vaccine issues and improving nutrition by raw feeding have had far-reaching consequences. Protocols on vaccination have changed dramatically and are continuing to do so and the movement she started will carry on gaining momentum for many years to come. She had the ability to turn talk into action, to cut through doubt and prevarication and showed huge bravery in tackling difficult issues. Her support of homeopathy was of immense importance and we shall be forever grateful. Her postcard campaign when the RCVS changed its position statement on CAM in 2017 was a shining example of this and was incredibly effective as well as being a moral support to us homeopathic vets whose work and livelihoods were being put at risk. She was a pioneer and an inspiration and we are so very sorry for the loss of such a remarkable woman and wife and send our love in this hugely difficult time for you. With best wishes from all in the Association Ilse Pedler (President) Chris Day (Senior Vice President) From Chris Day Catherine was one of the bravest, most enlightened and most accomplished women ever and she lit a spark which will never be extinguished. She never wavered and met each challenge head-on. Her will and resolve to research so diligently in her chosen field and to turn the fruits of that research into a clear message was beyond fair expectation. So many people have been inspired and helped and so many dogs have been liberated by her passion for truth, for common sense, for justice and for science. In losing her we have lost a true champion but she left us a wealth of written guidance and had the foresight to set in motion a network of like-minded people who can continue her fantastic work. The dreadful sense of loss is tempered by a realistic hope and belief that her legacy will live on and her work will continue. I don't suppose she ever imagined, for one minute during her early career, that she was destined to lead a peaceful revolution and have the tenacity to see through that destiny with triumph and honour. ------------ From the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society Dear Rob Tonight was the AGM of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society and tomorrow is our 6th International Conference. As a mark of respect to Catherine and all her work over the years, the committee proposed that tomorrow's event be dedicated to Catherine, and this was resoundingly accepted by the members. Our Senior Vice President will say some words in his introduction to the day in thanks to Catherine. We feel this is a fitting tribute, and hope that knowing this will bring you some small comfort at what must be the most incredibly difficult time. With our condolences The Committee of the Raw Feeding Veterinary Society -------- From CAM4Animals In case you haven’t heard the sad news, Catherine O’Driscoll, the founder of Canine Health Concern, sadly died on the 12th November after suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. Her work was so remarkable that we wanted to dedicate a newsletter to her. In 1994, two of her Golden Retrievers – Oliver and Prudence – tragically died. She asked, “Why?” and the answers that came back were sufficiently disturbing to make her feel that independent research was necessary – free from commercial bias. The result was that this quiet unassuming person stuck her head above the parapet and campaigned tirelessly for canine health. She needed to get the information she found as a result of her careful research across to people and to do what she could to protect other dogs from the same fate as her own dogs. We have put together a blog so people can find out more. It is really impressive to see just how much she achieved! Sara Kernohan, a founding member of CAM4Animals said: “Catherine was the first person I approached when the RCVS statement on Complementary and Alternative Health was released. It was Catherine who put me in touch with my fellow co-founders of CAM4Animals. So without Catherine, we may never have been formed. Catherine led from the front, guided and inspired so many to find the best way to treat their animals in as holistic a way as possible. She is a very great loss but she leaves behind a tremendous legacy.” ----- From Homeopathy For Everyone (Hpathy.com) We remember Catherine O’Driscoll who devoted her life to the health and welfare of animals. Passionate and dedicated she founded the Canine Health Concern and the Pet Welfare Alliance in 1994. Catherine O’Driscoll was the founder of Canine Health Concern and the Pet Welfare Alliance in 1994. She worked tirelessly and passionately toward helping companion animals. Her best-selling books include What Vets Don’t Tell You About Vaccines, and Shock to the System. See www.canine-health-concern.org.uk and www.petwelfarealliance.org. Click on ‘CHC TV’ on the Canine Health Concern website and you will see a prime-time documentary about pet food and vaccine risks. Catherine also released two other books: The Tip of the Needle which looks into the politics and economics behind the vaccine industry, and The REAL Epidemic which explores the causes of the epidemic of allergies, autoimmunity, brain damage, and cancer in this modern world and offers natural solutions to both prevent and treat such conditions. Catherine had been suffering from Motor Neuron Disease and passed away in the early hours of Thursday, November 12th, 2020. Her wish was that her husband Rob would keep Canine Health Concern going. Her loss will hit hard for most of us CHC members and those who knew and loved this amazing, stoic woman.... Catherine had been an inspiration and source of invaluable information for many years . She was someone to whom I referred anyone with a love and care for animals.
